The Nature of Form
The dense physical body enables the soul to express itself on the physical plane. It is a vehicle for the soul to explore and express itself. The food body, as it is sometimes called is made of cells, tissues organs and two fluids called blood and lymph. If you have but little knowledge of the anatomy of the body it is beneficial to study somewhat so that you have some knowledge of how the bodily systems function and where the organs are placed etc.
The body turns the food that we eat into itself. It builds and repairs itself with the nourishment we ingest. Fresh natural food is essential to health, as is clean water, sunshine and clean air. Do not negate the physical body. It is sacred and a part of the whole of us. Look after your body as you would a much- loved child.
The Etheric Body
This is a web of connected energetic fibres that acts as a template for the physical body. The structure of the physical body is held together, energetically infused and therefore dependent upon the vitality of the etheric body for its functioning health. I often think of the etheric body like a hair net dotted with shining pearls. Just as a net that holds a hair bun together so does the etheric body hold the physical body together. In death when the life energy leaves, the physical body disintegrates.
The etheric body then, vitalises the physical body, energises it. It is a vast web of energy streams, of lines of force and light. Cosmic energy, prana, reiki (universal life energy) flow through these lines. This etheric web of each of us is connected to the etheric web of planet Earth and to the Cosmos itself. Thus, we see here the connectivity of all things. Our soul pours its consciously directed energy into the dense physical body through the etheric body. The etheric body composes of the chakra centres and the networks of nadis that are threads of energy radiating over the whole body.
The Astral Body
This is the desire body also known as the emotional body where the interplay of desire and emotional responses effect the physical body. All our feelings are generated here as vibrations of various frequencies. The astral body is linked to the astral plane as is the physical body to the physical plane. Many schools of thought say that the astral plane is where we go in sleep state. Many diseases arise (90 %) from the etheric and astral body. (Alice Bailey. Esoteric Healing.)
The Mental Body
This is the vehicle of thought. Thoughts have vibrational frequencies that spread like energetic ripples on a pond. Waves of mental energy/thoughts can be picked up by others in cases of telepathy. The lower mind is concerned with survival, reason and logic. It is part of the personality. The Higher mind however is intuitive, the home of spiritual insights. Its through the higher mind that the soul can express its will and communicate wisdom to the lower personality.
A lack of vitality or too much stimulation affects the mental processes. Negative thinking, negative self -talk, doubts and fear affect health over a period of time, particularly immunity. People are, however essentially more emotional than mental and it’s the emotional response to thoughts that affect health more than the thoughts themselves.
Mankind and humanity are part of the earth and the cosmos so cannot be treated in isolation as such. What happens to humanity as a whole, to the earth and the solar system plays are integrative part in our health.
The Atman
The is the highest part of an individual. It is the spirit. The spirit has a need for purpose, growth and service. When we have no purpose, no higher meaning for being and a feeling of a lack of progress we can become spiritually lacking, listless and even suicidal. Many people at this time feel empty, depressed and that life is meaningless to them. This happens when we have lost our connection to source, the creative life principle.
As Reiki is universal life energy, it infuses the whole being of an individual with life giving energy working on all levels. It is through the connectivity of the etheric web which we are all part of that Reiki can be sent at a distance to others no matter how physically far away they may be.
